E Unoto Retreat is the only luxury lodge in which guests can discover the Maasai culture while staying in pure luxury. 'E Unoto' is one of the Maasai's most important ceremonies, a joyous occasion during which warriors choose their wives and enter into junior elder-hood. Singing, dancing and counseling accompany this month long celebration.
E Unoto highlights typical Maasai construction and detailing of furnishings. These concepts have been upgraded and utilized luxuriously to furnish the lodge. The setting of natural beauty overlooking Lake Miwaleni and the Great Rift escarpment hovering above create an "Adam and Eve" atmosphere. The lodge was constructed incorporating traditional Maasai methods combined with environmental awareness. The handcrafted and imported furnishings and fittings compliment the lodge's theme and provide guests with an exotic Tanzanian Maasai flavor.
It is located in a secluded and natural spot in the Maasai plains outside Lake Manyara National Park, and is easily accessible by road and air, approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Arusha. In 2002, Joash Were who has been instrumental in start up of many companies within Kenya and Beyond thought of it wisely that it was time to start up something tourism related. He had worked at great places. Bearing in mind that all the progressive people talk “WE” and not I, he has brought together a great team who are professional in their own rights.
