Peponi is a small hotel on the exotic island of Lamu, in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya. Peponi is still run by the Korschen family, who opened the hotel in 1967 and still retains much of the character and charm that it had then. Small and personal, it is the perfect rest after a safari or a hide away holiday from modern life.
Peponi has just 29 rooms, which are divided into suites, superior and standard rooms. All rooms at Peponi have ocean views. Suites and Superior rooms are differentiated by their location, size and private outside area with swing bed. All rooms have overhead fans, mosquito nets, showers (no baths), fresh flowers, and personal safes.
Room dcor: No two rooms are the same! The Superior rooms are differentiated by their location, size, private outside area, indoor plants, safes in all rooms, artwork and Swahili furnishings. Five of the rooms are built right on the beach, with private verandah areas overlooking the sea while the rest have a combination of ocean and garden views.
Room amenities: All of our rooms have overhead fans, mosquito nets, showers (not baths), fresh flowers, Peponi toiletries with pumice stones, beach and bath towels, colourful kikois to wear either to the beach or as evening wear for men, a flask of chilled drinking water, laundry service (24 hours), the option of room service breakfast, writing paper with hairdryers, cots, extra beds and baby baths being available on request.
Special features: Unlike many of the hotels in Lamu, All rooms at Peponi views of the Ocean. Little Hotel popular with honeymooners.
In 2002, Joash Were who has been instrumental in start up of many companies within Kenya and Beyond thought of it wisely that it was time to start up something tourism related. He had worked at great places. Bearing in mind that all the progressive people talk “WE” and not I, he has brought together a great team who are professional in their own rights.
